New Date Set for Christmas on the Green

In anticipation of the Piqua Indians making it to the state football finals the Mainstreet Piqua Christmas on the Green committee has decided to move the annual Christmas event which was scheduled for Friday, December 1, the night that Piqua could be playing in the state championships.  The event will now be held on Saturday, December 2 from 3 – 6 p.m.  Mainstreet Piqua Board Chair Jackie Shinall explains, “We realize that Piqua’s appearance in the state finals is a very real possibility and we also know that many of our residents will be attending the game so we have decided to move our event so that everyone can enjoy both events.”  Christmas on the Green will now be held the same day as the Downtown Piqua Holiday Parade and the Holly Jolly 5K Run.

Although the event will largely be held during daylight hours it will feature many of the same crowd-pleasing features of other Christmas on the Green events.  There will be carriage rides, live entertainment in the gazebo, the lighting of the community Christmas Tree and children’s activities.  There will also be a Children’s Christmas shop, strolling characters and pony rides.

The third annual Holly Jolly 5K run will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 2.  The run will begin and end at the Municipal Government Complex.  Applications for the run are available at Mainstreet Piqua.

Also on Saturday, December 2 the Downtown Holiday Parade will step off from the corner of Main and North Streets at 2:00 p.m. and make its way south on Main Street to High Street and then proceed on High to Downing Streets.  The theme of the Holiday Parade this year will be ‘A Victorian Christmas Card.’

Also following the same theme will be the Victorian Christmas on the second floor of Apple Tree Gallery, 405 N. Main Street.  The Victorian Christmas exhibit features beautiful holiday displays put together by area artists, florists, interior designers, merchants and individuals.  The displays will open to the public on Tuesday, November 28 and wrap up on Sunday, December 10.  The event is free and open to the public.
