Encyclopedia of Piqua History to be Published
When the Encyclopedia of Piqua History is published later this year it will contain literally hundreds of alphabetical entries covering the culture, history, people and places that have made Piqua the place it is today. The book will also contain a number of Patron Pages. These pages are sponsored and are essentially the histories of many of the businesses, organizations, family’s and institutions that make up the Piqua community. All Piqua businesses, churches and organizations are invited to submit their written history for the history book. So far approximately 30 different groups have taken advantage of the opportunity to share their own history. Businesses like Piqua Concrete Company, Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home and Melcher Sowers Funeral Home as well as Piqua Steel and Crane Company, Reed Mote Staley Insurance and Havenar Sampson Auctioneers will be in the book. A couple of churches will also be represented including Greene Street United Methodist Church and St. Paul’s Church of Christ. Civic groups that have pledged their support so far include the Piqua Heritage Festival, the Piqua Rotary Club, Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce and Mainstreet Piqua. Long time Piqua families are also encouraged to consider purchasing a Patron Page. In writing your family history, include the date when your family came to the area, the state or county from which you family originated and your vocation before or after settlement here. You should include interesting stories, marriage records, children, jobs, military service, education and organizations. A family biography should be written in third person (he, she, they). For a Patron Page, you will want to submit approximately 800 words and two photos. The cost for each Patron Page is $235 and the cost includes a complimentary book. The encyclopedia is available now on a pre-sale basis. Those who purchase their copies now at the pre-publication price of $34.95 with an anticipated delivery date of December 2007.
