THIRTEENTH ANNUAL TASTE OF THE ARTS FESTIVAL
SET FOR DOWNTOWN PIQUA
Taste of the Arts 2007 committee members are planning another exciting celebration to be held in downtown Piqua, Friday, May 18, 5 to 9 P.M. Once again the 300 & 400 blocks of N. Main Street will be alive with entertainment, food, artists, and children’s activities. The affair is held in conjunction with the Miami Valley Fine Arts Exhibition and Sale taking place this year on the second floor of the Apple Tree Gallery. The art show runs May 11 thru May 19. The exhibition is open and free to the public all week as well as during Taste of the Arts.
Mainstreet Piqua Director Lorna Swisher has announced the ever-popular Tom Daugherty Orchestra will return for the third year. The eighteen-piece orchestra will perform from 5:30 to 8:30 with great music for your listening and dancing pleasure. Piqua’s own barbershop quartet Lamppost IV will stroll Main Street singing old-time favorites and will take to the stage during the orchestra breaks. We promise you will be entertained all evening.
Headline sponsors responsible for bringing the orchestra to Taste of the Arts are Upper Valley Medical Center, Unity National Bank, Apex Aluminum, Hartzell Propeller, Ed Jones Offices, Mullenbrock & Associates, US Bank, Buckeye Mutual Insurance, McDonald’s, Hartzell Family of Companies, Murrey, Wells, Wendeln and Robinson and Miami Valley Centre Mall.
The committee is busy lining up talented local demonstrating artists, juried vending artists, and fourteen area restaurants and caterers to offer an array of delectable “taster” portions for your eating pleasure. The demonstrating artists will be located in several Main Street business locations while the vending artists will display their art pieces outside along Main Street.
A new and exciting entertainer will journey to Piqua for the expressed intention to bring fun and laughter to the children. The Amazing Bonzo will perform two twenty minutes programs the children are sure to enjoy. Can you guess who Bonzo is? No he’s not a clown, guess again. You’ll have to come downtown and find out. As in the past the children will be able to take part in several art projects under the KIDZ ZONE tent. Be sure to bring the children, it will be a fun night for them.
Committee members assisting Swisher are Chairwoman Cheryl Stiefel-Francis, Gary Anderson, Trisha Atwood, Max Cummings, Mike Foster, Marilyn Halteman, Susan Hemm, Kathy Kiefer, Adam Jacomet, Sandra Kraack, Mike Mengos, Susie Pope, Brian Quinter, Kathy Sherman, Edna Stiefel, and Gladys Weber.
