Piqua Note Cards Now Available
The Piqua community has always been blessed to be the home of some wonderful artists, but few have been as prolific in their Piqua-based material as watercolorist, Doug Smith. His subjects have varied from Piqua landmarks and streetscapes to numerous Piqua area barns. Through the years Doug Smith has been commissioned to paint many churches, homes, and businesses and Smith’s signature “stormy sky” paintings are fixtures in homes throughout the community. It was for this reason that the Piqua Bicentennial committee sought permission from Smith to use his paintings on a series of note cards. The note cards feature Smith’s paintings of the ‘old’ Shawnee Bridge, the 300 block of North Main, a view of the hotel gazebo and Don Gentile statue, St. John’s Church, Johnston Farm and the Flesh Public Library. The note cards are packaged in bundles of 12 cards, two of each design and 12 envelopes. The cost is $10 for 12 cards. The Piqua Bicentennial Committee would like to thank Doug Smith for his cooperation with the project as well as The Second Story Gallery that was willing to donate the re-framing of the prints after they were reproduced. The note cards are available at Readmore’s Hallmark, 430 N. Main Street; The Tapestry Angel, 516 Spring Street and Mainstreet Piqua, 326 W. Main Street. For more information call Mainstreet Piqua at 773-9355.
