Mainstreet Piqua Gets Entrepreneurial

 

Some would call it taking advantage of an untapped market, others would call it getting entrepreneurial, but either way Mainstreet Piqua is getting it done for Piqua.  After numerous requests for Piqua gift items Mainstreet Piqua is offering several Piqua items for holiday gift giving and a number of non-seasonal items as well. 

Mainstreet Piqua’s Executive Director Lorna Swisher says the brass hotel ornaments are the big seller right now. “We received our hotel ornaments just before Christmas on the Green and the ornaments have sold extremely well.” says Swisher.  The ornaments are $10 each.

Fans of the hotel project can also purchase Christmas cards with a rendering of the hotel at Christmas time on the front.  Another Christmas card design available features the High Street gazebo with snow and a wreath.  Mainstreet Piqua also has note cards featuring a Judy Fogt drawing of downtown Piqua in the era of the Miami-Erie canal.  The design originally appeared on Winans shipper boxes. 

Items celebrating Piqua’s upcoming Bicentennial include the Piqua Bicentennial cookbook for $5, the 18-month Calendar for $10 and a travel mug and ornament both for $5 each.  The calendar features 22 historical pictures of Piqua.  “We have sold over 2,000 Piqua Bicentennial Cookbooks.” says Swisher.  The cookbook has 400 recipes from Piqua area residents.

Two other popular Christmas items are two porcelain ornaments featuring black line-art drawings of the gazebo and a light post with the “Piqua Pride” banners. 

The majority of the items are available at Readmore’s Hallmark, 430 N. Main Street and Apple Tree Gallery, 405 N. Main Street.  They can also be purchased at Mainstreet Piqua, 326 N. Main Street, Susie’s Big Dipper, 323 N. Main Street, The Tapestry Angel, 516 Spring Street and Winans Chocolates and Coffees, 308 W.
